Who's rules on 'standard' seating arrangements should we defer to?

The only rule is already on the face of the puzzle in that the host is seated at the head of the table.

Congrats to Shanezor12 for being the first to solve the puzzle and send me the correct answer and winning the $50 Amazon gift card! May the Fourth be with you!
The theme is Star Wars. Here are the real names of the people and the dishes they brought. 1. Hanz Noalp (Han Solo) Roast beef (B) 7. Sasha Uno (Obi-Wan) a big cannoli cake (E) 10. Harry (Chewbacca) cookies (3) 4. Art Bravo (R2D2) mashed potatoes 3. Goldi (C3PO) corn 5. Robert Allen (Boba Fett) Pasta Alfredo (8) 8. Poco Verde (Yoda) vegan stew (5) 2. Bunny (Leia) kale salad (F) 9. Sandy Luck (Luke) BBQ meat skewers (9) 6. Dave Jones (Darth Vader) Thai wings (8)
R2D2 and C3POs dishes are not assigned a value because they are droids and do not eat or drink. Arrange the dinner party guests according to the clues, which requires knowledge of the Star Wars movies. Hanz "Notalp" refers to the fact that Al Pacino was the original casting choice for Han Solo. Could you imagine?
When you arrange the guests clockwise starting with Hanz, you get BF88E93. Google that and you get a Yarn film clip with the puzzle answer: That's no moon it's a space station.
Thanks to all who participated in this puzzle. I had so much fun creating it, and I'm glad it was solved in time for May the Fourth!

Congrats to Shanezor12!
This was such a fun puzzle. Once I figured out Star Wars, all the connections within the narrative were mini “a ha!” moments. Loved it. Thanks, and May the Course Be With You… (dinner course. dinner party…) I’ll see myself out lol

Congrats Shanzor12 on the win!!!!
Okay folks, I clearly do not deserve to have a May 4th birthday, and might have to see the government about getting a new identity, but in the meantime, Samantha, I still have some questions about the seating chart explanation, if you wouldn't mind elaborating on how each clue came into play. I really want to understand this one!
(EDIT: I see how you numbered them around the table now, sorry was reading your solution on my telephone before. Tiny text, bad eyes! I struck out irrelevant text. Still trying to figure out where I went wrong though!)
In the solution you posted, you left out "5" Yoda, so I am not sure where you have him seated, and I am having trouble figuring out where I failed to understand the clues properly. I can't tell from your solution if Vader is seated at the end of the table, directly opposite Han or not, but it does not appear so. The instruction to seat Vader as far away from Han as possible, which I interpreted as the opposite end, far right table position, was the baseline starting point of how I arrived at my final table arrangement. With right hand man Boba Fett directly to Vader's right (top right position) the only place I could seat Corn and Mash directly next to each other while having all family members separated as directed, was at Vader's left hand (C3PO on the bottom right, R2D2 directly to his left at bottom center-right) because R2D2 had to sit directly across from Yoda (top center-right) due to their shared diminutive status.
(EDIT: I see from your solution, there's another way to make this happen, but I still can't work my head around what I missed in the instructions/rules to invalidate my incorrect seating plan below. My brain appears to be quite fried these days!)
I had two possible solutions with Leia and Luke as interchangable in the top left and bottom center-left positions, because I wasn't sure if you were arranging clockwise in order of appearance at the party (Luke arrives early), or if Leia was in that first position as Han's girlfriend, but if I had Leia first, as you do, my seating plan is as follows:
Clockwise from Han B at left table end, top of table: Leia F, Obi Wan E, Yoda 5, Boba Fett 8. Right table end: Vader 8. Bottom table: (C3PO then R2D2) Luke 9, Chewy 3. My numbers ended up looking like this: BFE58893.
I hope the explanation of my thought process isn't as confusing as it looks! I would love to understand where I made the mistakes and also, where is Yoda 5 at the final solution table?
Elyse
