So if that line is straight-forward, what if 'look quickly down' is straight-forward? We have two instructiins telling us to be speedy. But why? If we're first to the chest, there's no urgency to get out of there. Or is there? Under what circumstances? |

Confirmed. That's why we need to leave our getaway driver, I mean search partner in the car. Could be many reasons to leave in a hurry...gate is closing, train is leaving, we're somewhere we shouldn't be, it's hidden in plain sight and you need to move before someone realizes what's going on, there are bears and snakes in the area, you're about to get soaked...

When he said “get the h*** out of here” was he talking about the meaning of tarry scant, or to the reporter? He didnt say there, but here. He just gave common definition for tarry scant, like he has in the past for “blaze” and “warm” and others. I dont see how it helps anything. |

I'm sure what he said was truthful but, what we’ve learned is that you should always tell the truth, but you should not always tell ALL of the truth. There are additional meanings that may still be valid, even with this being true. |

I have, and always will, say that this isn't a far journey. If he is suggesting that part is THAT literal, then it also seems to suggest that you aren't injecting your self physically into the poem until "Put in", with the first 3 lines (one sentence) of stanza 2 giving you your general description. From there your journey to a higher elevation begins. In the end, when you have the chest, you will be able to see WWH below you from that different angle as suggested by TS Elliot.

That sounds like it does have a double meaning (as do many of the words in the poem). Here is my opinion on the double meanings for that line, rewriting the line and adding punctuation to make it clearer.
First meaning: Gaze with marvel at the treasure, but do not hang around very long.
Second (double) meaning:
Starry cant, with Marvel [CO], gaze.
Starry cant means to look upwards and northwest from Marvel, toward a geographic location, a specific canyon identified in an earlier clue #2 (at a higher elevation), and gaze along a line between the two locations. Also plot that line on a "good map". Also turn around (180 degrees) and gaze upwards and southeast along the SAME line toward a "blaze" (not a literal blaze, but some town that has a name that means "blaze"). Also plot a line WISELY from Marvel to that new southeast center-of-town. Then gaze at these two lines with marvel (amazement) that they are parallel and now if you have been WISE, can extend one line the entire distance and it will go through the center of Marvel!
Note that the "blaze" in the poem has not only a double meaning, but a triple meaning (to be discovered).
This interpretation means that the clues are separated on land by long distances (hundreds of miles in some cases) and really are "too far to walk", but on a map- "not far" at all, less than 12 inches.

It appears to me like an example of selective hearing, especially when you read the conversation. My kids do this on occasion. Ask me a question and then interject the answer they think is right or the answer they want to hear, without giving me an opportunity to reply.
Hurry up and get out of there with a marvel gaze doesn't make a lot of sense to me, nor does wait around for a second with marvel gaze.

With now the full version ( dalneitzel.com/2019/10/02/voauneditedaudio/ ) , it seems Forrest is just plainly stating what he feels is obvious.... You look down after the Blaze... and then you don't drool over the chest, with marvel gaze, for hours.... you just get going... you just take the chest and go in peace... I'm not sure there is much more to it than that..... Sure, any searcher might look for more hints in there.... but is there? or if there is, are they needed? |

Jenny: but Forrest never says "blaze" -- he says "ninth clue": "The clues are chronological after that. One leads to the other leads to another and ... when you get to the ninth clue, look down because you’re where the treasure chest is."
