I know this has been asked many times. But what state do you think it is in, and why? Just curious to see the answers. Thanks.

I do not want to say this...but I will tell you that by his newest SB 213, maybe he gives a true hint? The SB deals with John connally and John ehrlichman and white house doodles. If you google that, the trail leads you to this... www.pressreader.com/usa/pasatiempo/20101022/281861524869969I believe this is the FIRST EVER article of the Thrill of the Chase. Both men are mentioned, but here is the interesting part.... There is one certainty, however, about the title's meaning: Somewhere in Northern New Mexico, a bronze chest filled with gold, jewels, and other treasures buried by Fenn, is waiting to be unearthed.\This seems to be the very first article written about the Thrill of the Chase. Question is...definitive? or miss reporting?

I think that is the reporter interjecting their own words into the story. Forrest has said many times, if you don't hear it from him then don't believe it. Reporters are as well known for adding their own touch's to a story, as artists are for changing a picture to their taste.

I wrote about that article on MW and shared what is curious to me about it: mysteriouswritings.com/forrest-fenns-first-news-article-on-the-thrill-of-the-chase-2010/I'm sure anyone who searches the Northern States (outside of NM) will feel it is 'just the reporter assuming the wrong facts'...... But should we assume that? This was one of the very first articles on the treasure hunt, and most often it is over time the facts get muddled, not right away. Now it is true, things can be stated wrongly right off the bat, but were they? In the article it says 'it was buried' and 'in Northern New Mexico'..... It seems Forrest didn't begin correcting these statements until after the hunt gained traction...and with many searching in New Mexico.... Should we assume Forrest made the changes because it is not buried, and not in New Mexico? There could be other reasons.....

Should we assume Forrest made the changes because it is not buried, and not in New Mexico? There could be other reasons..... You could argue it both ways: either Forrest later clarified that it could be much further North, or he was concerned it would be found too soon and so mentioning the further North states was misdirection to extend the hunt. But...if you bought the book in the early days, reading "somewhere in the mountains North of Santa Fe", would you not feel a bit aggrieved if the chest turned out to be hidden on the Canadian border? (Or would it be your fault for making assumptions about proximity?) As usual, I don't think the definitive proof exists until someone finds the chest.

I came into the Chase well after the search area was defined as the four states, but have pieced together the following basic consensus search area chronology:
1 Northern New Mexico (north of Santa Fe) 2 In mountains anywhere north of Santa Fe, including other continents 3 Western US and Canada, even Alaska 4 More limited versions of 3, with Utah, Idaho, Nevada and maybe others ruled out 5 Rocky Mountains north of Santa Fe 6 The Too Far to Walk four state map. 7 Mostly Yellowstone or New Mexico, amd maybe extreme SW Montana because that is what is mostly talked about in TTOTC.
I don't think a lot of the above has been specified by Forrest, except for 6, 4, and "north of Santa fe. It appears to me the rest has been construed by searchers. In retrospect, it's somewhat amazing searchers didn't appear to mostly arrive at 7 upon first reading TTOTC, but I gather that wasn't necessarily the case for many people in the beginning. It would be interesting to read a history from Forrest, since he had the most access to where people were searching.
My interpretation is that he was more than willing to let people make mistakes in the beginning, but gradually guided the search to where it is today as he gained confidence it would not be found quickly. The above interpretation, if accurate, gives hints as to where it likely is or is not. One is that if that is true, it argues against New Mexico, imo, because he was willing to let mistakes happen at Phase 1. It seems unlikely he would later distract searchers north just to be ornery.
I do believe it is buried, however, for totally separate reasons.

I believe the treasure is in Yellowstone because of the water High I found, the blaze, as well as wwwh and all the other clues. Do the 2020 questions hint towards New Mexico? mysteriouswritings.com/2020-mw-questions-with-forrest-fenn-the-new-era-and-beginning-of-legendary-status/1Q) A new era has begun and 2019 has come to an end. Can you give us searchers an update on how you feel the Chase went this past year? Has the Treasure Chest heard the clomp of searchers closer than 200 feet? Do you feel the Rockies are enjoying the flurry of activity caused by the Chase? Many searchers are being unduly influenced by the blogs. When several people voice the opinion that the treasure is hidden in a certain state, there is a flurry of searchers that head for that state. New Mexico used to be the favorite search area, but in 2019 that popularity on the blogs switched to the northern states. Of course, the overwhelming majority of people who are looking for the Fenn treasure don’t read the blogs so my opinion is drawn from a very small percentage of searchers. I think the Rockies are happy to see so many first-time visitors.

Do the 2020 questions hint towards New Mexico? Yes because it supports my confirmation bias. But who knows, he could be throwing a smokescreen to get people away from the area. Impossible to read into anything he says. Stick with the poem as he has stated. I think he intentionally says all kinds of things to distract. The winner will be the one who stays focused and ignores all noise.

When FF said he hid the treasure in one afternoon does that include travel? If so, then NM is the only likely outcome

Any idea where or who he was camping with? Do you have a link to where he says he was camping?
