No link, but if I was going to hide a chest in a certain place and had put all the effort in the planning of it and knew exactly where, Then I'd have to plan a weekend getaway near the place and do some fishing and have a few memories and be back at camp in time for dinner with my catch.

I know this has been asked many times. But what state do you think it is in, and why? Just curious to see the answers. Thanks. Montana....100%

It's in Colorado
Somewhere in the mountains "north of" Santa Fe
While "north of" can mean to the north directionally, it can also mean higher (as in at a higher elevation), or above (from whatever POV your map is, all maps are not north-south orientation), older than, more expensive than, or increasing in value (ie. the stock market heading north). Fenn even gave an example that "north of" isn't necessarily toward the direction north when he said Eric Sloane was 25 years north of him.

We'd probably think it was in New Mexico if he didn't go to Wyoming/Montana 4 times a year. Watch the Cody interview - he went there four times a year, probably for quarterly meetings of the board or the committee's he was on and he said that he "always went to Yellowstone" on those trips. I don't think it's in Yellowstone, but my point is that he was travelling - potentially alone. He said in that interview he drove 800 and some miles. I do that drive to STL several times a year and it takes about 13 hours. If he did that, he could have hid it in any of the four states.

In the recent Six Q series on Forrest Fenn Solutions, I liked Samuel's answer: mysteriouswritings.com/forrest-fenn-treasure-solutions-theories-six-questions-with-samuel-lovell/The state I believe the treasure to be in (Montana) was not decided upon, rather arrived at, after following the clues. Following Forrest’s advice, I began with WWWH and went from there. The state ended up being incidental to my solution and I’d caution any who are thinking of nailing down the state first to beware cutting off avenues of thought before they truly begin.

Well, there is an interesting question. State could mean one of the 52. It could be a state of mind. It could reference an old song, New York state of mind. It could be an emotional state like a state of anxiety or a state of tranquility.
So many states.

52 states? Do you mean Obama's 57 states? ;-) I think if you check your U.S. flag you'll get a different number -- and a number that Forrest mentions over and over.

While TTOTC talks about Wyoming and Montana a lot, the map in the book, next to the poem, shows New Mexico. Forrest says there isn't subterfuge...... If the clues lead to a solution outside of New Mexico, wouldn't that be considered a bit of subterfuge?
