Forrest hid the chest in both a very secret and very special place. He says this here: mysteriouswritings.com/the-first-interview-with-forrest-fenn-on-the-thrill-of-the-chase-on-october-25-2010/Here's the quote: That’s true…I’ve taken this treasure chest to a very secret and very special place, and I’ve hidden it there…It sounds like he thinks he is one of very few, maybe only one, who has ever visited this area. What type of area would this be if not remote and what would it require? -the need to cross a stream -pass through a marshy area -the need to go through dense brush or undergrowth - What other obstacles would deter the normal person? We know there is not a need to go up or down a steep precipice. That's ruled out as an obstacle.

what about a place that requires some tight maneuvering to get past....

My favorite quote to dispute that telling the reporter where home of Brown is would take her right to the chest. Baloney. People are so convinced home of Brown is this big lynchpin that will open the whole thing up based on ONE off-the-cuff response to a REPORTER.

First, let me be clear that I don't think anyone will know what HOB is unless they have correctly solved the poem and retrieved the chest.....
But:
08/31/2011 - A reputable journalist, Gadi Schwartz, reported that Fenn says home of Brown “very important”
03/05/2013 - During a radio interview: Interviewer: “I guess you have to where the home of Brown is?” Fenn: That’s right. Interviewer: “OK“ Fenn: “And you have to know where warm waters halt.”
04/02/2013 - Jennifer London asks: "Who's Brown"......FF replies: "if I told you that you'd go right to the chest"!
Given the other two statements by Fenn, I'm not too quick to dismiss the veracity of his statement to Miz London.
*That's what make this such a wonderful country and Chase..No? Good Luck to ya Zap, have fun in Montana...……...loco

People are so convinced home of Brown is this big lynchpin that will open the whole thing up based on ONE off-the-cuff response to a REPORTER. Forrest has said when asked: Who is Brown?Well, that is for you to find. If I told you that, you’d go right to the chest.
And he has also said to support that remark, since hoB is most likely one of the first few clues: If the person reads the poem over and over and are able to decipher the first few clues in the poem, they can find the treasure chest.
Not sure why you are so against at least the possibility that the hoB is an important turning point for finding the chest. I realize your solution may not mesh with this idea, but that might make your solution wrong, not Forrest's statements a joke.

Jenny: because I've made it abundantly clear that home of Brown isn't a clue as far as I'm concerned: *PUT IN BELOW* the home of Brown is the clue. If a searcher is working with half a clue, do you think they're going to be successful? Why is this so hard a position to understand? It's like claiming that "Begin it where warm waters halt" can be solved in isolation from the rest of the poem. It can't. And that's not my opinion, it's Forrest's.
Home of Brown is important and necessary; but it is insufficient. There could be a thousand places that are "below" the home of Brown where one could "put in." Home of Brown doesn't tell you which one.

I believe put in below and home of Brown are separate locations- so yes, I'd agree that line is not ONE clue.... for me 'put in below' is a directional clue. Whereas home of Brown is a location, and possibly the treasure chest location- and part of the story only the finder will know.

Yes, the place must allow this to be possible.....

I believe he is now the only person ALIVE who knows this as his special place. It's all possibly about perspective.

”Who is Brown? Well, that is for you to find. If I told you that, you’d go right to the chest.“
One interpretation of that answer could be Brown is a specific thing in a singular spot. I had Brown being Brown trout, which could be anywhere in the Rockies that has them, which is quite a few. So if the line is a clue, it’s does make it seem like whatever Brown is, is a singular specific spot.

I find it interesting to read the causes for places to be special to Forrest......to maybe gain a hint for why the treasure chest location is 'a very special place' to me..... On Forrest's blog (and in TFTW)... is his account of 'River Bathing is Best'.... a special place: www.oldsantafetradingco.com/blog/river-bathing-is-bestSeveral years ago, with my daughter Kelly’s family, my wife and I drove to the little road (It’s paved now) and walked to the river. I tried to get my granddaughters to swim where I had spent so many peaceful hours. The idea didn’t interest them much. That spot, which was so important to me sixty-six years ago, is mostly overlooked now by the occasional passerby. My memories of those experiences are so dear to me that I hope in time all of my grandchildren will follow my footprints to that special place.

They are almost - but not quite - indiscernible, so we need exceptional vision.
