I have a possible scenario for the location of the Charleston casque. In the Chicago puzzle they were given 3 points to locate the casque, the intersection of 10x13, the fence and fixture, and the clue central too. I think that meant if you drew a line between the intersection of 10x13 and the fence/fixture that the casque was centered between the two. I have not been there to measure. I think we may have something similar here in Charleston although I have overlooked it until now. The 3rd locator has been cleverly hidden. In the Charleston puzzle I believe you have to line up the bar that binds, the nearest palm tree, and the vertical hand of the clock shown in the image above the stairs. I believe the bar that binds is the round bar centered under the cannon from the Keokuk. The nearest palm tree is almost straight across South Battery Street. I believe the clue "White house close at hand" means the white house is close when you line up with the hand of the clock in line with the other two points. See illustration.

Anyone have any thoughts on this solve? I'll be in Charleston this weekend for the first time since I started working on the secret puzzles. I'll try to get by WPG and take a look around.

Here's my theory... "Or on the eighth a scene Where law defended" On November 8th, 1718, a group of pirates were hung near what is now White Point Garden. So, we are now at White Point Garden wondering where to go next. "Between two arms extended" This is where my theory is different than others. I believe the two arms that are extended are streets. Arms extended is what you do when you are MEETING someone- like a hug or handshake. Also, since a CHURCH reaches out to people, you can say their arms are extended. Meeting St. and Church St. just happen to be right here at White Point Garden and running parallel to each other which means something can be located between them. Since the casques have historically been buried in parks, I believe we are now looking for a park between Meeting St. and Church St. I believe it is buried in Washington Square (more hints to Washington coming later). But, where at in Washington Square? Next line... "Below the bar that binds" I believe the casque will be buried below a bar that binds- an earthquake bolt. (Thanks, canuck) "reinforcing rods were used in Charleston as a preventive measure against severe gales, hurricanes, and tornadoes, which occur far more frequently than earthquakes. It's only because so many were installed after the 1886 disaster that they came to be called earthquake bolts.” Lo and behold, there are earthquake bolts on the east side of Charleston City Hall at Washington Square. There are also what looks to be earthquake bolts in the image. But, there are numerous earthquake bolts on the city hall. Which one is correct? Next line... "Beside the long palm's shadow" There are two palm trees near the east side wall. One is taller than the other. I'm theorizing the shadow of the tallest palm lands near an earthquake bolt on the wall. Dig directly below that earthquake bolt. I tried to post a link to Washington Square park showing earthquake bolts and a short and tall palm tree. You might have to copy and paste the whole thing. www.google.com/maps/@32.7768707,-79.9309311,3a,19.4y,274.57h,112.71t/data=!3m8!1e1!3m6!1sAF1QipO6kqHeMXq6S30TFylqAQHie4PahWCltWSxgAxx!2e10!3e11!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipO6kqHeMXq6S30TFylqAQHie4PahWCltWSxgAxx%3Dw203-h100-k-no-pi-0-ya4.6343656-ro-0-fo100!7i8704!8i4352?hl=en

For the Washington Square Park idea the “White House” in the verse could be the Charleston County Courthouse across the street. That building was designed by James Hoban and his next project was The White House in Washington DC. One was likely the model for the other so it’s interesting....

Hey Guys, We got back from Charleston last night, had a great weekend. I went by White Point Garden and City Hall. I'm sorry byrnie, I wasn't able to make it out to Fort Moultrie. I have one interesting find at each location (at least interesting in my opinion). I'll be able to post those tommorrow.

I like your idea about "close at hand" because it surely means more than being close by.

This is what I saw in Charleston and in White Point garden. The building addressed 1 Broad Street has like 9 lion heads on two sides of the building (6 facing Broad Street, 3 facing East Bay Street). This could be important because East Bay Street leads directly to White Point Garden. Preiss may have been putting you on the route. This was my first opportunity to view the pattern in the benches at White Point Garden. I think the upside bird in the pattern of the Birlant benches is similar enough to the upside down bird in the butterfly wings. I also noticed the trees in the background have many healed spots where limbs have been cut off in the past. some of these could be the circular spots along side the upside down birds.

Again, good work. I like the bird match.
If only you could theorize a dig spot. Go probe. Dig some if promising. Retrieve casque or move on to next theory. No wonder we aren't having much success. It's not a big deal...but it is.

I theorized that black bird to be a raven and the two circles the two sets of 2 batteries at Gadsden near sandy beach. Raven=Poe=peacock Blue peacock butterfly being the woman.
