There better be a travel corridor (road, path, trail, sidewalk etc.) close by this stone wall door that runs North and you have to be able to cross over it. BP said ”running north,” not look north or go north or head north. To me this means a travel corridor that goes north. The object of Twain’s attention is on the other side of the travel corridor from the stonewall door and north of it. You've lost me on this one. I agree with you that "running north" means your travel corridor runs north, but where does it say in the verse that we have to be able to cross over the travel corridor? Where does it say that the object of Twain’s attention is on the other side of the travel corridor? The verse puts it on one line:
It seems pretty likely that "north, but first across" all modifies "running." It's just telling us about a landmark. It doesn't say what we should do.

You're probably suggesting to substitute up with north for a cross. My favorite is Top of the Mark (Twain).

A correction is needed. . The tree that I have been calling a Giant Sequoia is most likely a Redwood. After delving into the “Mark Twain”tree it appears that it was a Giant Redwood that was cut down in his name. Some call it a Sequoia but they are two different species. I don’t think there are any Giant Sequoias in GGP or that grow along the California coast. This still doesn’t change my theory on the location. Thinking more outside the box. In the Milwaukee verse the last line is “The treasure waits” . Now this got me thinking about the tables at #5 picnic site and waiting on tables. In the SF verse the last line is “ the casque is kept”. Now looking up the definition of kept / keep we see one of the possibilities is to hold something back, much like the berm that runs along 36th Ave. and holds back the water in Spreckels lake Another thing maybe the fact that JFK was the 35th president and to use 35th Ave. as a guide to how far one goes across the walkway ( east), to be able to line up with the ( in jewels direction ,the turtle ), and the tree.

I've been searching old maps looking for any mention of the concrete turtle without any success. Short of digging out the cask one should find the installation date. Here's the best tourist map from 1981 with the most detail points of interest. Too large for clickable image. imgur.com/As30qgPClick on the image to expand, right click to copy then paste to your paint program for maximum resolution. Alternatively you may click to expand then right-click and "open image in new tab". New high-res link added above.

That could certainly change the theory if the concrete turtle was not there in 1981.

Yes, that's a major concern. I plan to talk to some of the yacht club members the next time im in the area, and see if anyone remembers how long its been there. The last time we were there a few weeks ago, my son struck up a conversation with an older gentleman, who was very happy to tell him everything about the history of the club etc.

Could the eye of the dragon be an image of a sailboat? ( Spreckels lake sailboat).

I remember talking about that a few years back when people were searching the cove area. If you turn the image upside-down it looks like a fisherman's boat or a clog sandal. Fisherman's cap on the dragon's nose too!

I see a sailboat race along the top of the dragons head! Imagine them sailing straight towards you, that's exactly how the billowing sails would look, esp the 3 rightmost boats, the dragons scales as the bows

I do like the boat ideas .Lots of different RC boats on the lake. Different shapes. I was thinking of dragon boat as well . That didn’t seem to be to be a thing in SF till 1996 even though the actual festival/ race is much much older in China The location on the eye would mean that you view it,( the boats)?

They had pedal and row boats in Stow lake not Spreckels. I don't think they had the swan pedal boats. If they did then it would match the swan made with S F in the #1 position of the fence map.

It's impossible to have RC boats without having unique controller frequency. Otherwise you'll have a mess! The map mentions "miniature power and sailboats" and "model boat club". Members of the club could perhaps get unique Crystals for their boats and remote. Another thing to clarify!

One more funny observation - 6 in Chinese is pronounced as liu. Very similar to lou, so if I were a dragon with a bunch of 6s in my tail and with a cap on my nose, that would be the reason. Look at the 6 symbol while we're at it... Looks very similar to a symbol on the dress. Does she have a name yet? Liu has a nice ring

Regardless, they still use RC boats on the lake. To think that those model sailboats would not have a motor or a way to adjust the sails electronically is a recipe for disaster. What happens if the wind stops and your boat is in the middle of the lake? They may use the sticks to hold the boat in place prior to a race or to launch it. When asking about the turtle make sure the individual was a RC boat club member back in 1980. I’m sure there are park records out there showing what was done at the lake and when.

One windless eve, 40 years ago, under full moon(s), a woman waded into the lake to retrieve her boat, and the legend of Liu was born.
