OK , I’m going to try to apply the verse to Battery park. Like I stated previously, many landscape changes have occurred over the years but Castle Clinton and the East Coast memorial and most monuments are essentially the same. I think the casque is buried close to the East Coast memorial.

“ In the shadow of the grey giant find the arm that extends over the slender path”
On the giant grey slabs at the East Coast memorial are the names of those that lost their lives at sea during the war.
There are 4 individuals where the last name begins with the letters “arm” of which one person is named “Armijo”(bearer of arms).
Now at 11 am that section of the granite wall would be in shadow or since the names are carved in the stone then they would be in shadow. The 3 columns per side on the slabs might be considered 3 slender paths , maybe.






Another interesting coincidence is that the verse and the painting are tied to the month of November and the hour is 11 , but if you do twice as many steps as the hour you get 22.
November 22, the month and day JFK was assassinated .

“In the summer You’ll often hear a whirring sound”
Could be bikes( bike rentals?), skateboards, fishing ( casting).Casting off the pier at the north end of the park where you see the square faced clock with Roman numerals on the end of the pier would make sense.

“Cars abound”
This line could tie into the previous lines in that a nearby parking lot is full during the summer or just lots of cars in the area.

“Although the sign nearby speaks of Indies native”
Reference to the Netherland monument

“ The natives still speak of him of Hard word in 3 vols.”
With the Japanese hint , the East Coast memorial dedication, and image on the tassel I believe that person is JFK.
This is how JFK ties into the San Francisco puzzle.

“ Take twice as many east steps as the hour or more”
Self explanatory. I think he worded it that way so the word east ties in to the memorial

“From the middle of one branch of the v”
I think he is referring to one of the 5 branches of the military, specifically Airforce ( flying bird in painting). The Roman numeral for 5 is a V.
So you are heading 22 steps ( a step can be 2.5 to 3 feet in length) east of the middle of the Airforce column

“Look down and see Simple roots in rhapsodic mans soil “
I think that distance gets you to the east side of the East Coast memorial wall and you peer over the elevated section and in the past I’m betting that rhapsody blue hydrangeas were growing there below the wall. The line could also be referring to Gershwin’s birth place ( Brooklyn) south of the park , but I think after going the 22 steps you look down in the soil to see the simple roots. If you end up going due east then you might end up directly behind the Eagle. Again don’t know how much landscaping has been done in the past or any modifications to the monument overall.

“Or gaze north toward the isle of B”
It’s  the isle of B not isle B.

This could be the isle of B . Bowling Green park ( an island onto itself),across the street and north of the Battery park, NYCs oldest park that happens to have a fountain at its focal point. This could be fountain that I’m looking for in the bottom of the painting.
Or, Castle Clinton was originally called the West Battery and was on a man made island .Lots of land fill changed that, now it’s no longer on  an island  unless one considers Manhattan an island . Initially,Immigration processing began at Castle Clinton then later on moved to Ellis Island .



The ladies belt and tassels
Since the function of a belt is to tie things together then the belt and sash/ tassels on the lady are there to show you that this “ ties “together to the park. How JFK ties to the location, maybe.

The lion image you see on the Netherland monument faces the fountain at Bowling Green park. That is probably why you see the lion image in the water spray in the lower section of the painting ( close together)


Im going to add this one last bit that might relate to JFK. From the write up about the Cleveland burial site JJP came up with the Greek Cultural garden  location. You have to ask why the Greek and not one of the other many  sites in the park. I think he chose this site specifically because of the Greek part and the fact that JFKs wive remarried to the Greek tycoon Aristotle Onassis. I Still think somehow JFK is the connection to all the parks.

Battery Park has a couple of things going for it.
Find the arm that extends over the slender path: There are two arms in the image that correlate with Long Island and Manhattan.
Long Island is similar to her left arm but flipped.
So which arm? The one that extends over the slender path. Manhattan extends over The Narrows.
Battery area is similar to her right hand holding the flower. Flower looks like a firework explosion.
Her fingers being the slips/ferry terminal.
The stem of the flower is similar to the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel location. Wave tunnel in the painting.
Cars "abound" could be a word play for cars "bound" as in cars confined in a tunnel.
Then there's the rest of her arm.

First off. I think every line in the verse relates to something you see from the park/ dig site.
The arm being Long Island is good , but I like your “ Yellow Pages” theory with the fingers doing the walking.
My guess is that there probably was a phone booth close by
As far as cars abound goes I think I read that there were a lot of cars by Battery park for parking for the ferry . You can also see that at Historic Aerials.com 1980 Battery park
Lots of symbolism. I doubt Hamilton is the Indies guy. I never even heard of him until that musical came out.

I’m going to add this for the dig site as a possibility.
Even though most agree that the bottom of the dress could be the bottom of Manhattan I think it is also part of the Battery park East end.



It fits the theory that the centre of the painting is where the casque is located.


The next pic shows what you would see from the dig site.
Now I think JJPs painting is done in layers where the girl is separate from the arched panel ( The head is on top of the panel ie. in the foreground ). The head both represents the eagle at the East Coast memorial as well as Lady Liberty. Maybe you have to line them up from behind the eagle.
There is also the possibility that the casque is further east along the wall. Let me explain. If the first panel represents the grey giant slabs ( red outline since they gave there life and blood for their country). The next one is Ellis Island, then the Eagle( girls head), and lastly the clock tower at the end of the pier. So your dig point would be along the wall where you see those landmarks in that particular order.
I still think Rhapsody Blue Hydrangea use to or still does grow along that wall.

I've noticed that 1st few verse lines of most if not all verses have double meaning for macro location and dig-site location.
In Boston, "If Thucydides is north of Xenophon" is reference to Boston north of NYC. Also Th north of X or Third base north of home-plate (X).
The arm line in verse 10 could refer to the arm in the painting/lower Manhattan AND an object at the dig site.
Similarly grey giant could be the character in the painting AND an object at the dig site.
So I wouldn't pigeonhole myself to a single meaning or a single arbitrary spot like the center of the image.

Well that’s correct . There are lots of different interpretations and lots of possibilities . Everyone needs to open up a dictionary and write down all the possible definitions for every single word in the verse. Look up the definition of “arm” in the Webster’s dictionary and you will see over 10 different possibilities. It might sound like a lot but it could change your perspective. With the many possibilities it’s best to apply Occam’s Razor to the puzzle.

When it comes to looking for something grey ,then the painting is telling me to look at the grey rectangle object and what it might be . Certainly the girl could be a giant but she’s not grey enough for me.

I look at the meaning of the colour, object, location of that object on the painting, size of the object , detail of the object,etc. and draw some lines to see if those lines cross anything that fits the verse. Divide the painting into 3 sections . What’s in the foreground , the middle , and then the background of the painting.

I kind of like the central area of the painting pertaining to the dig site. It’s difficult enough as it is to figure out the final location, like I said before JJP asked BP if putting the home plate on the arm for the Boston puzzle was OK . Now why would one ask unless the image is trying to convey a story as to the final location. Heck just then go paint Willy Nilly anywhere, don’t bother asking. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Works for the first three casques.

Now when it comes to the verse I think he is telling you where to dig in a sequential order with” looking down and seeing simple roots in Rhapsodic man’s soil”, being the clue to the final spot. Yes one could also interpret that to mean , look south and see the birth place of Gershwin. Doesn’t make sense to me that the casque would be in Brooklyn from reading that line and the Japanese clues.

I find it a bit disconcerting that people are trying to apply the previous find to the next find. Just because one casque was found on a baseball field doesn’t mean we should be looking at baseball fields for the others.

Now when it comes to the Rhapsody Blue Hydrangeas ,those panels are separated by the purple panel , the Seagull Eagle” , so there probably is or was a cluster at one section along the wall then another bunch further down.

When I read "shadow" and "arm" in any puzzle I automatically think of a sundial. Occam’s Razor.
"In the shadow of grey giant", the simplest interpretation would be to look at that grey giant in the painting and locate the
dark shadow that is wrapped around an object that looks like Superman's S. You know, the shadow that looks like 5 (V).
If you want to use synonyms for every word then giant = colossal
Grey giant could be the female version of Colossus of Rhodes. Rhodes gets you to Rhode Island which Long Island would be in it's shadow.

So we can agree on Manhattan, even though that’s a convoluted way to get to that conclusion . So where is the sundial in the park and how do all the other lines fit in with the dig location? “ Loose lips sinks ships” .

I need photos to see. There has to be a solid object or a historic event that occurred in the park, not some random event by a Joe nobody.

Took me a bit digging through all the posts, but personally I don’t think it’s buried by the Sharansky Steps nor do I think it’s in Brooklyn either.

That Sharansky spot is way too much in the open , not in a so called “park”, can’t see the isle of B , where is the indies native sign, and do the natives still speak of him?? Sharansky ? If we are trying to tie in the San Francisco site ,( JFK drive in GGP) to the NYC site then the only spot that fits is in Battery park.and the JFK dedication of the East Coast memorial. You have to see everything from the dig site.
The UN bldg. is not specific to JFK. nor is it in a park. My guess is if you tried digging that close to the UN bldg. the SWAT team would be paying you a visit. You would get your 15 seconds of fame.

My concern about the casque location along the wall of the East Coast memorial is that from the aerial photo of 1980 there appears to be an extension ( pathway?) to the monument from behind the Eagle but today there isn’t one .So if the casque was buried there close by then there is a possibility that it got destroyed or removed by an excavator, hopefully it wasn’t.

This was during the installation of Peace Form One with many construction workers at the site so he could easily slip in after hours and pretend to be a gardener or worker. PF1 has a narrow path with the arm extended over it.
As to your other questions they are all answered in detail and no "baconing" under Verse 10 thread.
BTW Sharansky is mentioned in the book under dedication section.
Also Peace Form One is in the painting AND verse 10 line "From the middle of one branch of the ν".

Sorry, I still don’t believe it’s buried there. You basically have high level UN security guards directly across the street from Bunche park. Yes JFK gave Bunche an award. Does not mean that it couldn’t be there ,it just doesn’t fit the pattern for me. You have to see everything from the dig site.
