I'll give the correct solution to this question as simple as the poem reads. But you need to not forget "and take it in the canyon down" not far = shouting distance. Now you can shout pretty loud down a canyon and be heard pretty far away,even over a mile with echo.but since your at wwwh and can see down the canyon not far but far enough that it's to far to walk he says the easiest way around is go put in below the home of Brown. Not far equates to a stones throw or shouting distance. And a good arm can throw a stone pretty far.its just easier to take the long way around.
