Happy 2024 to everyone, and welcome to my 5th year of Forgotten History Hunts!
I found a quote I felt was appropriate to usher in the new year, and for my first hunt of the year:
Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.
-Bil Keane
So, to start the year off, here are the instructions and rules for my hunt, PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE:
1. This is a totally armchair hunt. No travel is required.
2. Winner must have a US address.
3. Send your answer to me via messaging here on MW.
4. A correct submission will include answers to all the clues along with the two parts of the solution.
5. Partial answers will not be accepted.
6. If you are part of a team, please assign one member as spokesperson who will submit all answers for the team. This will help me avoid confusion.
7. Feel free to message me with any questions or comments. I will answer any questions on the public forum.
8. Message me if you feel there is an error. Despite my best efforts, sometimes mistakes &/or typos do sneak in!
9. There is one prize for this hunt. The first correct answer I receive will be the winner.
10. Have fun and good luck!
And again, Happy New Year!

A quick note before it causes confusion: For the line that says, "Title, translated", the number of dashes is not the number of letters in the answer. That was supposed to come out as a solid line.

I received a question about a step in the solution. Right now, I will only say that everything you need to solve it is provided. If you haven't solved everything on the page, you have not found everything you need (and to get credit for a correct solution, you do need all steps solved- guesswork doesn't count).
Good luck!

Searching for the background image will not help you. You need to solve the clues, follow the instructions, find the solution. It's that simple :-)

Hey, I just was curious if you meant to have 2 number 30's or if one of them was supposed to me 31. I'm talking about the main numbers to the left of the words.

Hey, I just was curious if you meant to have 2 number 30's or if one of them was supposed to me 31. I'm talking about the main numbers to the left of the words. There are actually two of #6, 12, 14, 21, 30 and 34, so yes two #30's is correct, and I did not use #31.

Please remember to read the rules. For a complete submission, I need the answers to each line of the puzzle, the solution to those as a whole, the solution to the numbers at the top and the final answer which is a title and a topic.
Thanks!

Just a heads up - If the hunt is not solved by then, I will post my first hint on Monday, Jan 8 at 11am EST.
Don't give up! Good luck!

Sorry I'm a bit late. I've been digging out of the snowstorm :-) Anyway, here is the clue:
First, the hunt has nothing to do with the Moody Blues! Second, after completing the message, you might want to take Julie Andrews' advice with Do-Re-Mi!
Good luck!
(now I'm going snowshoeing!)

Past, Present and Future solution: Answers come from all my previous hunts, which can be found in the archives. #1 is the first hunt I did (The Roaring Twenties) and #39 is the most recent (Halloween Hunt). Once you have the answer to each line, you need to pick the letter in parentheses. Reading from the top of the page to the bottom, you get: PERTH AMBOY EVENING NEWS TITLE TOPIC PAGE SIX JAN TENThis tells you the newspaper where you can find the answer. To find the year, you need to apply the numbers at the top of the page to the Bil Keane quote I used in my introduction (a present not in a box, but right in front of you). Selecting those letters, you get: ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO, so the year o the newspaper is 1924. When you go to the National Archives newspaper site, Chronicling America and enter the newspaper information, you can find page 6 and the article: Title: THE MAGIC EYETopic: This article is about " RADIO MOVIES," predicted in the future, to be sent through the air over radio waves. They even predicted you would be able to watch events occur in real time on a small screen, right in your living room. They were a little off on the time frame, but overall, this and the other predictions in the article have come to pass. They wondered what life would be like two hundred yeas in their future (and still 100 years in our future). So this article is from our past, about their present, wondering about their future and ours. Here is the link to the article:
