Jenny said early in the game that the states are easy solves, and they were in the first two scrolls. Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the clue for the state. Would anyone who understands the state like to share?

Razorback, it sounds as though you were at the same place too. I didn't realize you had made the trip also. When did you go? I live about 2 hours from Hot Springs. I've been over there several times, but obviously no luck. If this is the place, I am looking in all the wrong places. I spent a lot of time at Balanced Rock and Goat Rock. Now, I'm just waiting til August to see if it was already found.

It's a Vignere cipher using the keyword 'Jefferson'.
Same thing on Scroll 2, VIBEYCHVSUQNVXBA, IS A Vignere cipher, using "GeorgeWashington"as the key.

No, once I paced off the 840, I was near an intersection to another trail. I tried both ways. Only one way had a wide rock formation that you had to cross. I didn't count the paces to the rock formation, but it was about 200 yards. The rock formation in the path was about 30-40 yards wide.

At one of the main places, I was able to line up the 210 bearing (actually, about 212 bearing) from the spot looking as found in the hidden instructions. There are other STRONG confirmers in that general direction, but not as close to the 210 degrees.
I created a table listing the instructions that Mitchell and Timmy followed, and compared step-by-step with Nels' group.
I got Nels group taking the 930 + (undisclosed) + 140 paces (looks like Nels instruction to the boys to "follow the trail out back") to the rock ledge, which is where the two boys go 68 feet. This seems to be where Nels went down the hill.
---------------
Tangential question: Does Nels get the paces from another clue in the stack which we are not shown?
Oh no! No wonder I didn't find it. I paced off 840 + (undisclosed) + 190 paces, instead. I assumed Nels got the paces from the stack of clues he solved.

"Jefferson" was the keyword.

Are you talking about Balanced Rock or Goat Rock @ HSNP?

Sorry, nadaclue. Maybe it is talked about in his San Lazaro book, but I don't have a copy. I figured it was something he found there.

Maybe the clue here is that when we get to the final location, we may have to reach high over a ledge to recover the rock.

That's what I figure. Use the pacing directions to get you to the correct ledge. Then use the compass directions and take a bearing of 210 degrees toward a large rock. Then go 68 feet as the mockingbird flies. Mockingbirds are dive bombers. They have a habit of folding their wings and dropping straight down. Then look behind the rock at the base of it, and dig with your fingers. Seems pretty clear.

Excellent find zaphod73491! That has to be a confirmer for NYC or maybe even the park itself. Way to go!!! Still not sure which hunt it goes to. I was hoping one of you articulate hunters could get on Pete's site and convince him to tell us how to distinguish between the 3 hunts.

I think Pete said there are maybe 15 different ways to solve where in the U.S. the treasure is located. As much as I would like Hot Springs, Arkansas to be the treasure location, there aren't anywhere near 15 clues for Hot Springs. However, there are at least 15 clues for New Orleans and New York City.
