I think Dicey is going with French connection and apparently that's not an opal but a turquoise on a French beret. Now we're in trouble with NOLA since that half-circle gem can not be a turquoise.

Boston wasn't just the homeplate and the shadow foot pointer. Next to JJP's initials is a reflective table that could represent water that is reflecting the bird's perch that looks like an old 'polo' stick. Also layout of Langone Park with 3 ball fields is in her apron. The home plate was the end point where you did your steps in his direction. The other objects you mentioned “ could represent “ or “looks like” but not much else looks like a home plate other than home plate itself. To me the table could be part of a home plate with the T for T ball and the bird might represent a baseball ready to fly. We can make a lot of guesses as to what things represent. Only JJP thinks like JJP.

“You also have to use those clues that people walk there dogs there, lots of leaves to hide under and there is the park police close by .” This was never tied to a specific city, this is an assumption of yours, not a fact! Did Byron say this? Yes Did Byron say this was a specific city? No, he just mentioned this experience in one of the 12 cities. What is your Dutch connection to Quebec City again? True Byron didn’t specify which city .It’s a guess like everything else. Unless you have a more logical location in mind I’m all ears / eyes. Let me toss this out there . The three things he mentions are the dog ( the “wolf “head we see in the painting the legeater ), tree leaves, ( you can see Maple leaves in the background of the painting “to the south a forest”), and the police ( the park police / administration bldg that we see at the south east corner of the park and the police car we see in the painting together with the legeater) . Now I know he’s not talking directly about these 3 things but they could be hints related to the painting as well. I never said there was a Dutch connection to Quebec City . I said it was a French connection. There may be a Dutch connection . Tell me exactly how the Mount Stephens Club or Mount Royal have a Dutch connection. The way I see it so far with the casques recovered is that they are all in parks and each park ties into the immigration nation theme. Grant was Irish, Poupolo was Italian, Cultural Gardens had the Greek. So where exactly is the Dutch??? In Montreal . Did the Dutch build the Mount Stephens club? Other than some obscure foot note in the history of Canadian immigration. Did any of those Dutch make it to Quebec City? Maybe? Now I could be wrong and you could be right . So let’s hear your full solve for Montreal. So I guess we can choose what lines to ignore in the book? Even with the obvious Quebec City references. Not only that but we also find Cajun references in the book with “Loups Garoux” , the wolf( werewolf).
Now this is from a government web site. The Dutch tie in if that’s what you really want. I think it’s obscure . Like most sites say the Dutch settled in Ontario and out west. OMG Russian Jews in Quebec City how could that be….better toss out NYC.

I don’t think I read anywhere in the rules that you can’t have a French connection twice. It just says to match one verse to one painting. Milwaukee stone doesn’t exactly look like an amethyst but we can somehow find an excuse for that?

If you were meant to use the same immigration group more than once there would be no need for The Litany of the Jewels. The same Litany that tells us to use Dutch for one of the cities. Why wouldn’t the Dutch be connected to this particular image that is based on Rembrandt who was Dutch?
Remember you can’t use French for Quebec City without affecting other pairings. Are you going to pair the Dutch with New Orleans?

I don’t quite understand why the painting reference artist has to match the nationality of the dig site . What Irish painting resembles the Chicago painting? As a matter of fact if you can list them all that would be great.
The way I see it is the character looks like John A ( casque is in Canada) and he is wearing a French beret as a confirmation for Quebec. Or you think he looks like Rembrandt and forget about Canada. The painting is done in a burnt umber tone because he is trying to convey the month of October. Leaves falling off the tree to hide from the dog and police.
The lady in Boston was supposed to be a Witch. Not an Italian witch or whatever the artists nationality for this reference was .
Maybe in October when they put out there displays in the Joan of Arc garden there is something tied to the Dutch theory. A big tulip / clog / windmill or maybe the Dutch gave the Quebecers a bunch of tulips each year for the garden . You know for liberating Holland. Anyones guess. One can come up with a multitude of reasons, that’s why it’s a theory.
I’m still waiting for a logical complete theory for Montreal and how it ties into the painting .

John Abbott has connection to McGill U.

John Abbott has connection to McGill U. Your missing a “T” . What ever happened to “CABBOT” for John Cabot? Yep an extra “B”. So is it a reliable acrostic? Abbot is actually the male head of a Monastery. Joan of Arc was canonized by pope Benedict XV. Could he be considered an Abbot? Yes, John Abbott was the 3rd prime minister of Canada… famous, No. Dutch,No. Connection to McGill then maybe one should look around there to make the Montreal theory work. Good Luck. Look, I like the legeater in Montreal as much as the next person but I can’t make Montreal fit for the verse or the overall painting. Maybe things have changed dramatically over the years in Montreal and the clues have been lost forever. I would still like to think all the casques are buried in parks and not private property. Then again it’s BPs puzzle not mine. Quebec City theory fits perfectly for me. Straight forward no bacon gets you to a precise dig spot. In the broadest sense a Dutch connection is possible for both Quebec City and Montreal. I don’t see any park in Quebec named or associated directly with the Dutch.

Turquoise is gemstone for December. NOLA painting has clock showing 12. Opal is gemstone for October. The hourglass in the painting shows 10. Also I have to agree with Canuck and the Rembrandt connection, specifically the 1972 Montreal Museum of Fine Arts robbery that involved Rembrandt painting. The museum is near Mt, Stephens/Drummond st in golden square mile south of Redpath Crescent (arch) which is at Pine St. (member of forest).

Well …..let’s hear everyones complete theory…………. Crickets
Some obscure Rembrandt robbery that made the local news 8 years before the puzzle was created is not something that BP would incorporate into the game. There would have to be a big bronze plaque there proclaiming that a Rembrandt was stolen there or else no one would know about it back in 1980.
If anything I might agree that the casque could be by the Mt. Stephen club from the image alone. The problem is the verse. Which one to use? I think we have to look harder at that Japanese clue. ( Milwaukee). Ask yourself why would he spell out the word drum? Is it an acronym. Sure Drummond makes perfect sense but is he eluding to something else ? Why add the line “ without tedious effort there will be no treasures acquired “ really ! As if we aren’t trying hard enough already. Is this a quote? Why tedious boring effort. The problem here is that this hint is for Milwaukee , or is it?
To count 5 trees is ridiculous.( Milwaukee) He says it’s the fifth of something therefore there must be four others ( the same) and as such each must be labeled or else how would you know it’s #5 . To me he is eluding to the #5 post in Lake park which is made of wood (a post / part of a tree). He’s not going to tell you directly it’s a post but in a round about way. Like I said before the “iron horse “analogy is for the Joan of Arc in her iron suit of armour on her horse. Can’t get any clearer than that.
Maybe it’s in some “Rembrandt “park somewhere . There is one in Montreal. Just doesn’t fit the bill ,other than the Rembrandt part. Another thing about the clue about the hiding in the leaves and dog and police is the fact that most leaves fall off the trees in October in Quebec, so your burial ground better be by a forest, not the Mt. Stephen club.
You’ll need to do a lot more convincing to get me out of the Joan of Arc garden.
You have to see these clues from the dig site /park.

Why don't you start with matching the gem with the clock in the painting before a long-winded "solve" with a mismatched month/gem/clock.

Like I showed there was Dutch immigration in Quebec City if you really want Dutch. The book eludes to Kaaterskill so why are we looking in Montreal? Oh yeah the legeater. Show me the clock?

Well I’ll say one thing . That’s creative abstract thinking.( hourglass). Even though the way I see it ,the flag icon and information icon fits the cross roads by the park. I think the flower is the clock.(maybe). Then again I’m not saying that the painting is not for October , October would fit precisely with the displays in the Joan of Arc garden. We can debate this till the cows come home or the casque is uncovered. I do like seeing different perspectives.
