To answer your question, originally "yes." ;-) But I've lived in California the last 35 years. (I realize you're kidding, and just pointing out that I can't "know" that TxTH had the right starting point unless I was the finder.) Perhaps in time we'll know whether I was correct about that. I'm kind of hoping I'm wrong -- it would be a tough pill to swallow if I've had the correct solution for the last 7 months and got beaten by a week. I have been haunted by Joseph Sharp's words shared by Forrest: "How foolish of a man to wait, when once his chance is nigh, tomorrow may be too late, some other man may buy."

He said the poem in my book - I always thought there was something to the book cover. If you look closely you can see letters on the cover. If you tried to photocopy the cover, it would come out grey. If you tried to photocopy the cover of too far to walk, it would come out as bars. try it yourself.. My bet is whoever found it figured out how to "uncover the cover". Solving the poem was finding the truth, uncovering the truth, it was Fenn telling the truth.

Congratulations to the finder! I am disappointed it's over but it was a lot of fun stewing on where it could be and will be fun if we learn of the finders thought process to deducing it.

I think Fenn ended it... Hopefully I am wrong!

Glad you caught the humor, and I was thinking you were in California. (I lived in OC and taught at CSUF until 2012.) I'll probably get around to posting my solution and what I thought were hints, but one I thought you would appreciate was the use of excerpts from "Lewis and Clark" as the background for "Cactus Cowboys" in TFTW (pages 72 and 75) -- and both excerpts seem to have been deliberately chosen/crafted to include the reference to the map that would "really come in handy later on." I thought this was the "unintended clue," not the map cutting off Canada, etc. I have another that Ironwill will appreciate, too.... But now it really does not matter...!

I emailed if he would confirm my solve but I don't really expect him to reply so I'm going to reveal it here. The location was Silver Plume Colorado. Military grid reference map. 13SDD3846194423. We were to travel in late May but postponed due to covid-19. WWWH....I70 at Georgetown Loop Railroad Take canyon down......I70 Put in below Home of Brown....exit 221 to Silver Plume No place for meek...Silver Plume Cemetery End ever drawing nigh.....left No paddle up your creek just heavy loads water high.......loop railroad track Blaze....telephone lines. Reason they stand out is that they go to ground and then back up. Worth the cold...clear creek. In the wood.... Creek goes in 2 directions around area if wood. Spot is exactly 200 feet from path going from Georgetown to Silver Plume Key moments in forrest life.... 13 when he began to figure things out 38 shot down 46 Vietnam war ended 19 threshold moment. Joined military 44 age he met Eric Sloane 23 age he graduated as pilot and married Peggy I'm confident Silver plume was one of his Dad's favorite places and sure they road train together when it reopened. The Vietnam War ended in April 1975 - Fenn was 44 (his birthday is in August) and already retired from the Air Force. In 1968, when he was in Vietnam and shot down the second time, he was 38 (December 1968). He joined the Air Force at 20, he'd just turned 20 and joined three months after the war started (which was June, so he joined in September, when he was 20).

Thanks, Goldilocks! Yes, tough to put in 10,000 hours and possibly get scooped a week before I was going to arrive there. But all's fair in treasure hunting, and besides, I learned so much from Forrest over the last 5 years that I never would have been exposed to otherwise. I didn't need the golden goodies nearly as much as many other searchers in the Chase; I just wanted to be the first one to solve Forrest's challenge. Still, I had been looking forward to meeting Forrest while wearing that Wetherill bracelet. :-)

My theory was Ojo Caliente area. And a hefty dose of encrypted messages in the poem.
Maybe the current mood in the US has something to do with ending the chase... looking forward to Fenn’s next communications

It feels weird, not having the Chase anymore. I've only been in it for 4 years, I can only guess how people in it for 6-7-8 years are feeling now. It took me up until now to have it really sink in.

Fenn really had a point in giving people hope. Now there’s a void... it has to be real since this would be a bad time to take away peoples hope... but the chest was his to give and to take and shame on us if we were not able to find it in 10 years... let’s wait for the solve - Has to be Ojo Caliente
