There has been ample time and opportunity for Forrest to make a statement to thank searchers who put time into this and made sacrifices. Yesterday on Dal's site Dal made a statement about wrapping up comments on his site etc. and Forrest thanked Dal. Dal and searchers shared touching words and it's the first time I have felt like it's time to move on. The questions lingering in the back of my mind since this ended so abruptly and uncomfortably was, is there a surprise ending coming, what the heck just happened? Regardless of how this ends there is always room for gratitude. Yes "the poor guy will be turning 90 next month". I am totally sympathetic to this as well as his ailing wife and I actually had hoped Forrest would've stepped back years ago and let the Chase run on it's on. But since he didn't and chose to be highly involved, I don't understand how there isn't anyone - a family member, a friend etc. who could help formulate a statement on Forrest's behalf to bring this ending into a more positive light. It actually didn't have to end this way IMO. I have been gone for awhile.
Goldilocks, I don't think it will ever happen and I am sure of that.

OH is pretty clueless IMO when it comes to image analysis, and so are his so called experts.

OH is pretty clueless IMO when it comes to image analysis, and so are his so called experts. I like OH! a lot, but I think this digital camera image stuff has some design flaws in it, leading to these "aberrations." Light is a deeper study than it first appears. I saw a documentary once that said that gold reflects light differently, uniquely. I wonder if that could mess with the digital "print" that results in modern day cell phone images of something like the treasure chest.

OH is pretty clueless IMO when it comes to image analysis, and so are his so called experts. OH states that this was an initial analysis since the full analysis was out of his price range. I wonder if the initial analysis that was done was just a quick scan for visual anomalies that might or might not be from manipulations. This seems like a way to get the buyer to purchase the complete analysis rather than something you can draw solid conclusions from. From what I've heard there are ways to analyze a picture digitally, at the pixel level, to determine areas that have been manipulated even when there is no visual anomaly. Without an analysis at that level by a reputable lab I won't believe that a picture has been doctored. It's expensive but you get what you pay for.

Not sure, but I don't have to pay and can do it myself. I've been working with this stuff for over 3 decades professionally. I also worked at various companies (Adobe, JASC, and Corel) on imaging software. Detecting the footprint left by digital manipulation is not difficult when you know exactly how to write the code that did the manipulations in the first place. They use the software, I helped engineer the software. Keep in mind I am not saying it wasn't manipulated, but his post and description is amateur at best. I'd rather not participate in controversy.
BTW...
I believe many people are upset and just looking for excuses because they failed to locate the chest. OH seems like a smart guy, but his solve was wrong IMO and he can't accept it. He had some great ideas, but refused to stop bothering with Kirwin and bent everything to fit Kirwin. His numbers, especially 109 are relevant, but not the way he thinks they are. He is right that 109E is where Tuy Hoa is and 109W is Kirwin, but you can't just swap out E/W when transforming the coordinates around the world. For example, 1 minute or even 1 second of longitude spans a much greater range in miles down at 13 latitude than it does at 43/44 latitude. So if you want to calculate where he might have flown in Nam and translate it to WY/MT, you need to do so using angles and distance, you can't use longitude and latitude because the distance East-West is greater the closer you get to the equator. Latitude is the same, longitude is not.
I made similar mistakes when I calculated the spots to be over YNP if he flew out of Kirwin, but if we are to really MIRROR the longitude, we can't do it by swapping E-W in the coordinate, you need to mirror the direction vector itself then plot the same distance. This puts you over at the Bighorns right near Lovell if you mirror the areas near Mang Yang Pass for example. If you don't mirror, and simply plot the distance along a vector, it mimmics his flight and puts you right near the fishing bridge area in YNP.

Even latitude is inconsistent in terms of ground length. For instance, most people think if you are at exactly 45 degrees north latitude, you are exactly halfway between the equator and the North Pole in terms of distance along the geoid. You aren't. Not even close. (The true halfway point is at around 45.1442 N.) One degree of latitude from the equator to 1-degree North latitude is 110.574 km. From 89N to the North Pole, the distance is 111.694 -- over 1100 meters longer. So I agree with Wymustigo that you can't just use Tuy Hoa's longitude, mirror it across the Prime Meridian, and achieve anything meaningful at small scales that are tied to *either* Tuy Hoa's latitude or longitude.

But special to the necklace are two cast gold objects - one, a jaguar claw and the other, a frog with bulbous eyes and legs cocked as if ready to spring. I held the 2,000- year-old piece of jewelry one last time and could almost feel its ancient power, its supremacy, before I finally lowered it into the chest and closed the lid...,......... I wonder if it's an embellishment or the finder rearranged the contents a little?
