en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HermeticismAll IMO: «As I have gone alone in there» points to Hermticism. A term coines by John Everard in 1650. «Cryptography» was coined by Thomas Browne around the same time. There are Bacon ciphers in TTOTC. There are «John Dee» acrostics in the poem. Fenn talks about watering his trees, has to do with triangles and Hermes Trismegistus (Thrice Great) and importance of geometry in Rosicrucianism / Masonry. All this requires a leap of faith, but when Fenn wears an old top hat just some weeks ago when receiving toilet paper at his gate, I think it’s a cheeky reference to Francis Bacon whose trade mark was the slanted almost wizard like top hat. Either you’re into this stuff or not... but I think Fenn is... I agree that Forrest is "into this stuff." Some of you have some interesting hint finds. Very interesting.

According to one news report, the finder doesn't want the location revealed. Then again, according to Dal, it should be coming out in a few days. I think people are misunderstanding what Forrest says quite a bit, so I don't have a clue what's going to happen. Somewhere I read that ff had nothing written down, on his computer etc(it was all in his head), regarding the location, how to solve the puzzle etc.
If this report about the finder not wanting the location revealed is true, does that mean that if it had been found after ff had passed, we would never know the location, answers to clues etc?
Quite possibly. It's a shame, because I think this Quest is a marvelous creation. I'm still pondering about revealing some of my own discoveries in it. If the finder wants to keep the location a secret, I guess there's a reason for that. I'd want to honor his wishes, I think. But that doesn't mean some of the really cool hint finds can't be revealed.

A possible reason that the finder does not want the location revealed, is that it would take away the reason to buy any book he plans to write revealing it.

"Look for more information and photos in the coming days.f" Is he referring to information and photos of the chest which we all assume he means or could he be referring to information and photos of "the promise of other discoveries"? I think I've been doing this too long and have grown accustomed to second guessing everything!

Having written a few books -- and knowing a lot about the publishing industry -- the finder could monetize the find much better without a 'book deal' than with one. And leverage press and publicity smartly to garner a following, even amongst this community.
Had I found it, the first place I would post would be here with a detailed solution. Given everyone's involvement I would want the community to know 'how' / 'where' / 'why'.

"It was under a canopy of stars in the lush, forested vegetation of the Rocky Mountains"
I am very sure of my solve. It would have been under a canopy of stars but the immediate area was not lush. Maybe he means the Rocky Mountains in general.
Please, let me have been wrong.

The canopy of stars was the cover of OUAW, that was the treasure map. He gave us all the map and no one ever knew. If those stars don’t lie directly on your clues, your solve isn’t right

I believe the autobiography he included will be explosive. He also took the trouble to put it in his hidden bells. The man is going to a lot of trouble to ensure his story will come out in time. We may think we know Forrest, but imo we are about to find out a lot more.

agree.. the 'memoirs' were puzzles.... but monetizing that does not work in a traditional manner.

Even in his announcement does Forrest phrase things enigmatically. "...the poem in my book led him to the precise spot". Why not just "the poem"? Why the "poem in my book"? Something to do with the printing or font or a physical copy of the book and poem? And "under a canopy of stars" must have some further meaning.
I can't wait to hear more on the solution (if it ever comes out).Fenn obviously wants to talk as little as possible about whatever just happened. The only real info we got is that the finder was from "back east". So he had to overcompensate for the lack of details by talking about stars etc. I think criminals blackmailed him to give out the location.

Or, could have to do with this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_Eastern_Star

A while back Jenny asked for possible questions for Mr. Fenn. My question was what he would like for us to do with the autobiography. So, he had a chance to make a request from the finder but he didn't answer my question.

He has said don't publish it because he would want to edit it first.. thefenndiagrams.com/q-a-with-fenn/first-round/
