I think Hot Springs is a part of the clues because it is the opposite of Cold Springs.

There were many clues that pointed to the state/area/city/park of Hot Springs. I have not been listing them because I don't want to do that until the results are made public, and/or until the other hunts have been announced. But I think thabt there are easily that many clues. I believe some clues have double meanings and may point to different places. GeneticBlend: you cannot deny that the clues for New Orleans are blatant, prolific, and far more city-specific than any Hot Springs clues you've got, and since your starting point IS the Big Easy, I don't know why you would be resistant to the idea that that was the 14-16 clue city that Pete intended. When he says to figure out the starting city and then do what the characters do, why exclude the whole driving portion? I just don't know how you can handwave the blatant New Orleans and Baton Rouge clues.

I don't deny that there are blatant clues to NOLA, but I don't see that as the solution.
I also am not on board 100% for the follow what they do, pertaining to the places they visit in the book, with the starting point as NOLA.

My mistake, GeneticBlend -- I confused you with, I think, MinotaurMoreno. At one point in this thread, someone (probably MM) posted an image of a map with waypoints superimposed for NOLA, Baton Rouge, Hot Springs, etc. that nicely matched the dot pattern on the book cover. Since I mistakenly thought it was you, I naturally assumed you thought the starting city was NOLA (plenty of clues for that), and you then replicated what the characters did (e.g. first stop in Baton Rouge 80 miles to the NW). After all, what's the point in having dots for each of the waypoint cities otherwise? But I gather you're in the camp that "do what the characters do" only involves the point after parking the Butterscotch Clipper.
I still think that if the book cover dots are indeed a pictorial representation of the driving route, then New Orleans is definitely Pete's city. After all, the bullseye on the cover corresponds to NOLA, not Hot Springs. There are certainly 14 or more ways to identify the city of New Orleans from the book (and not just some tiny landmarks within New Orleans that no one has ever heard of). Can the same be said for Hot Springs, AR?

I just want to say I started in NOLA and had it step through locations from there. Not sure if I am right, but I don't care much since the organizer is lying out the solve..... when is that happening?

Here is a thought I have heard NO one mention, and that is what if the flute was in one of the SHOPS for sale at an outrageous price, say $5,000 dollars? Remember, he mentioned something in the beginning of the story about spending $5,000 to win $50,000. So, It always made me wonder if the item was not hidden but was available for anyone to purchase, but most would pass it up as an outrageous price, unless you were looking for it. Mull that thought over a bit.

At 9:00 am the tv station showed what was coming up and the quick shot of Pete burying/hiding the flute showed him in front of a large rock wall that definitely looked like the Hot Springs site we were all checking. Still waiting for the 9:35 reveal time.

Still waiting for the 9:35 reveal time. Ahhhhhhh! It was in Hot Springs, Arkansas on the Sunset trail and I missed it on two different trips!!!! How did I not find it?!!!!! TxTH, what did the boulder look like? Was it on the Balanced trail or the other way at the fork on the Sunset trail going toward Music mountain?

The view was a close up so it was hard to tell for sure but it looked like the Balanced Rock area from what I could see. There was low undergrowth in front of the bolder and he just placed in there close to the boulder, maybe a foot away and spread leaves over it. It looked like it was in some sort of waterproof canvas encasement, hard to tell. I feel I looked there, but just didn't dig into the growth far enough.
Also, see the new thread I just created for the new "search". You just have to solve the riddle and send it to him for a case of bourbon.
