Please remember that L is a music major and knows about scale degrees that most amateur musicians would ignore.

I think "equal" must apply to something other than the hunter himself / herself. The competition is fair as long as Lukas doesn't show undue bias. But the hunters are not equal. Some are smarter, better educated, more experienced. Or just more lucky. "Equal" might be a wonderful ideal, but it isn't reality. And we would like to know where the key is *really* located.

That was a bone, or at least an invisible one. Another hunter and I are working on a decrypt that doesn't involve a book. It seems to be working although I certainly wouldn't bet my life on completing it.

Are you sure you need the book to break the cipher?

Dublin has an actual statue of the "Cockles & Mussels" girl.

The book "The Life and Adventures of James W. Marshall" is available at Google Books. Not saying you need it, just saying it's there if you want it.

My understanding (?) is that you can rent a VoIP number from anyone anywhere that's willing to take your money. The first key is in Dearborn because we were looking for a place where a deer was born (groan).

Okay, after a week and a half of fruitless searching, I found a pdf called the Crypto Party Handbook. The James Marshall in it is a computer programmer, not a millwright. Can someone please tell me if I am warm or cold? Or have I located another rabbit hole?
Edit: Thank you Coy Wonder.

We may be confusing two tasks. The phone number and Lukas' voice is the result of figuring out Key One. The ciphertext is something different and I haven't found it yet.

art3mis.com is a website at Go Daddy that doesn't have any content other than "art3mis.com". While it could be part of our hunt, it's an extreme long shot.

Okay, I'm going to post a find I have for the sake of moving this forward. Let me know if it was already discovered, but a cursory glance in here did not yield anything. www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100035254278385Look at the date of the only image... For those that got the clue to Key 1, I know this could be argued as in conflict, but a find I made regarding stanza7 still fits with the clue and is too perfect to be coincidental. I'm hoping by sharing we could confirm or eliminate this cypher option I'm now hearing about. I personally don't buy it, but I would love to have a go/no go to be able to move on. Subie, it was recommended to me to confirm if I found the chest with you. If you don't mind a pm, i can dance around the topic a bit to see if we both may have found the same thing. From the place he lives and works, this may be a legitimate gold miner. On the other hand, the timing of the account creation is suspicious. I don't find anything hidden in the image even with Notepad. For your perusal is www.jamesmarshall.com It's a private site & I can't get in. Maybe you can do better.

More ideas on the US road numbers: In general odd numbers go north and south, even numbers go east and west. Each state can and does number its own roads. A four-digit number is likely to be a county road. The bigger a road is, the more likely it is to be numbered within the conventions. For named roads, all bets are off.

According to tineye.com these are stock images that were edited to go into the website. Good catch, I didn't see them.

I can't open the dot in the woods either. But one of the nearby PhotoSpheres says SUTTER MILL. No apostrophe and no trailing S.
